The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the College of Graduate Studies (CGS) of the South La Union Campus in cooperation with the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of La Union launched the third phase of “Project S.C.I.E.N.C.E.”  (Science Competency, Instructional Empowerment, aNd Capability Enhancement) with the theme, Reshaping and Retooling Science Mentors amidst the Ramification of Information Age.”

The Project, which primarily aims to retool Science educators on the current trends and issues concerning Science Education in the new normal, is a four-part training series that focuses on the subject areas: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Science.

Science teachers from the secondary schools of the division who were able to register through a first-come, first-served online registration were considered participants in all the four series exclusively.

The training series is implemented through a hybrid modality — two days are allotted for the online interactive lectures and one day for the on-site workshops. The Physics and Chemistry series were held last April 27-28 & May 13, and May 25-26 & June 17, 2023; while the Biology and Earth Science series are scheduled for the third and fourth quarters of the year.

Dr. Flordiliza B. Dalumay, the incumbent Program Chair of the PhD and MA in Science Education spearheaded the said Project. The effectiveness of the training will be evaluated and monitored through observations of actual demonstration teaching of the teacher participants upon completion of the project.  (By Mary Corrine R.
