DMMMSU demonstrates consistent support of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council’s (NDRRMC) quarterly conduct of earthquake drills. Today (March 9, 2023) all the Operating Units in the University participated in the university-wide earthquake drill.

The drill took place at exactly 2:00 pm. The DUCK, COVER, and HOLD activity, and the activation of the Emergency Response Team were carried out in each workplace in the University.

Sharing his observations, Prof. Randulph I. Navasca, University Coordinator for DRRM, describe the University personnel as being responsive. “Also this time, we used the drone in monitoring the conduct of the NSED. We are trying our best in the University to incorporate the use of technology especially during critical events such as earthquake”.

Prof. Navasca further shared that in the Philippines, Rapid Eathquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS), a software developed by PHIVOLCS in 2002 under a DOST GIA Project, is now being used.

“The software can simulate earthquake hazards such as ground shaking, liquefaction, landslides and tsunami and compute earthquake impacts in terms of physical damage, casualties and economic loss.”

DRRM Officers, Safety Officers, ERT, and focal persons from each unit facilitated the execution of the said activities. (By Ayu)
