Thirteen (13) BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering students of the North La Union Campus attended the 25th Luzon-wide ABE Convention at Romblon State University, Odiongan, Romblon on February 7-10, 2023.
Anchored in the theme “Strong Leadership and Key Innovation towards a Sustainable Food Secured Philippines”, the event aimed to convene students/bayaws who are enrolled in BS Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering and members of the Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineers- Pre-Professional Group (PSABE-PPG) from the 26 member – State Colleges and Universities to talk about sustainable food security in the country. This year, however, only 11 SUCs were represented. The participants from these SUCs joined in lectures, competitions, and socialization activities.
PSABE-PPG DMMMSU Chapter brought home gold in ABE Quiz Bee. Regan R. Rola, Mc Kevin F. Manzano, and Louise Jane D. Gaon secured First Place in ABE Quiz Bee, leaving behind wizards from Mindoro State University gasping for three points to secure their seat being the defending champion of the said Quiz Bee. Cagayan Sate University-Carig Campus placed third.
Meanwhile, Bien Carlo T. Cariaso, was able to dig gold as he hurdled in the ‘Tractor Implement Competition’ and yielded an actual recorded time of 2 minutes and 32 seconds in the said race. Despite an additional time he incurred due to unintentional violations, Cariaso held tight to his wheel the gold.
Moreover, Jerick A. Bongolan, the current President of PSABE-PPG DMMMSU Chapter, was chosen as one of the Board of Directors for PSABE-PPG.
Together with the four students, Denzel Adam A. Piol, Alexis Jan Vicmar N. Noveloso, Jomari Q. Consuelo, Herbert G. Acosta, Dave Anthony A. Mangibat, Dhane Allyza P. Untalasco, Edison D. Pidot, and Micah Joyzen B. Inon also joined in various competitions. All thirteen students were accompanied and coached by Engr. Shalimar O. Badua and Engr. Raquel C. Gamotlong. (by Jerick Bongolan)
