Mr. Jarson P. Libunao and Mr. Julius Peter M. Hufalar, Sericulture Research and Training Institute (SRDI) personnel, attended a 28-day training on sericulture and silk industry at Central Sericulture Research and Development Institute, Mysore, India on November 6 to December 6, 2022.
The training covered subjects namely 1) mulberry cultivation technologies, 2) silkworm rearing, 3) silkworm seed production technology, 4) extension management and transfer of technology, and 5) post-cocoon technology.
Along with other participants from 30 countries, Libunao and Hufalar also underwent practical sessions and field visits and were oriented on soil analysis, silkworm rearing, pest management, silk cocoon marketing, and reeling technology.
India is known for being the only country producing all the known commercial varieties of natural silk, viz., Mulberry, Tropical Tasar, Temperate Tasar (Oak Tasar), Eri and Muga. The Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute (CSRTI), Mysore is the pioneer Sericultural Research Institute under Central Silk Board. The Institute also conducts training programmes on different aspects of sericulture for foreign enthusiasts. (Ayu)
