The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) of the South La Union Campus has inked a five-year Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the 2nd La Union Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Philippine National Police with Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr., DMMMSU President and PLT Col. Angelo J. Camuyot, Mobile Force Commander as representatives of the two agencies.
The said MOA is attached to the SIPAG-ASA extension project of CAS which initially aimed at capacitating communities or institutions within La Union to enable them reach their fullest potential but now leans towards providing a series of capability trainings that include communication, computer literacy, mental health wellness, gender and development and financial literacy for the personnel of the Philippine National Police- 2nd La Union Provincial Mobile Force Company. For their counterpart, PNP offered their services on law enforcement lectures, self-defense, safety and security measures for both the faculty, staff, and students of DMMMSU-SLUC during future events. The first of the series of capability building trainings is scheduled in January 2023. This revolves around sharpening their communication skills in both spoken and written English.
The SIPAG-ASA project was initiated by the College of Arts and Sciences in 2018 but the opportunity for a potential partner came only this year when the PNP-La Union requested for capacity building trainings from DMMMSU.
An initial focus group discussion was facilitated by select CAS faculty members last August 26, 2022 to determine the needs of the PNP personnel in this unit and another meeting took place on August 31 to follow up on the needs analysis.
The ceremonial signing of the MOA happened on November 9 at the mobile force unit headquarters at Brgy. Sta Rita Norte, Agoo, La Union with Mr. Ronald B. Bustos, Extension Head of the South La Union Campus; Dr. Janice Rhea P. Cabacungan, Alumni Head and SIPAG-ASA project leader; Prof. Yezza E. Sindayen, Chair of the BS Psychology program, and Ms. Angelita Domondon, CAS resident guidance counselor representing DMMMSU; and PLT COL. Camuyot and PCPL Annabelle B. Aspillaga representing the PNP- mobile force unit. President Jaime I. Manuel, Jr. signed the MOA on November 22, 2022. (by Ronald B. Bustos)
