DMMMSU participated in the conduct of the 2022 quarterly Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).

Prof. Randulph Navasca uses the University ambulance siren to send an emergency alarm during the NSED in the North La Union Campus.

This simulation activity, which is conducted in the various units of the university, is implemented regularly and simultaneously with NSED to help promote earthquake preparedness and to test the readiness, response, and recovery plans, as well as coordination and communication mechanisms of the University.

“The evacuation part was well executed. Building occupants immediately convened at the assembly points. There were no reported problems/issues during the evacuation,” Mr. Jyger Pre, Coordinator for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) in the South La Union Campus (SLUC), replied when asked to describe the conduct of simulation in the Campus.

“On the emergency response part, auxiliary personnel were the frontline actors being the first responders to report to the command post. The campus has enough resources to deploy during emergency,” Mr. Pre added while at the same time underscored the need for reorganizing the Campus Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Meanwhile, Prof. Randulph Navasca, University Coordinator for DRRM rated responsiveness 3 out of 5, and execution 3 out of 5.

Both Pre and Navasca expressed the need for “immediate and more intensive trainings on all aspects of emergency response.”   (Ayu)
