DMMMSU-NLUC- Fisheries Research and Training Institute (FRTI) and Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) signed a memorandum of understanding this morning, November 4, 2022, to promote volunteerism in the academic community.
PNVSCA, a government agency under the National Economic and Development Authority, is mandated by Republic Act 9418 or The Volunteer Act of 2007 to formulate policies and guidelines, organize and implement the national volunteer service program and coordinate the activities of local and international volunteer organizations such that their services fit into the overall development goals and objectives of the country are ensured; and to promote volunteerism as a strategy for national development and international cooperation.
As part of the collaboration, DMMMSU will 1) designate/create a Volunteerism Office on each campus of the university, if applicable; 2) serve as one of the members of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on the integration of volunteerism in the education curriculum; 3) engage academic and non-academic personnel, students, and alumni on volunteerism; 4) assist PNVSCA in the promotion and advocacy of volunteerism for nation-building and development; 5) conduct researches or studies related to volunteerism; and 6) collaborate with PNVSCA in building volunteerism statistics which shall include, among others, the setting-up of a mechanism for the creation and regular updating of a comprehensive database/directory involving and engaging organizations in the social development sector; and the submission of a statistical report/s on volunteer mobilization on a quarterly basis.
