DMMMSU along with PRODEV conducted a Training-Workshop on Teaching the New General Education on July 11–15, 2022.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Elsie M. Pacho, Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasized the need to “provide DMMMSU students with a well-rounded educational experience to prepare them for a greater grasp of the core disciplines in higher education knowledge.”

Right after the opening of the program, a plenary session was initiated by Dr. Edward Jay M. Quinto, the Director of the Prodev Project training Center where he emphasized the need to review the outcomes, purpose, rationale, structure, and core courses of the New GE Curriculum. His introduction of the workshop was immediately followed by the discussion of Dr. Jonathan V. Macayan, the Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Education of Mapua University about outcome-based education, its foundation and principles. In the afternoon session, Dr. Jasmine Nadja Pinugu, the Program Chair of the Department of Psychology of Mapua University discussed the outcomes-based assessment and shared her best practices.

  • Engineer Richard Earnhart (for Mathematics in the Modern World),
  • Professor Jill Dalisay (for People and the Earth’s Ecosystem),
  • Professor Geraldine Canlas (for Art Appreciation),
  • Dr. Ryan Corona (for Ethics),
  • Professor Jasper Eric Catan (for Purposive Communication),
  • Professor John Mark Villanueva (for Readings in Philippine History),
  • Professor Angelo Guevarra (for Gender and Society),
  • Dr. Geoffrey Rhoel Cruz (for The Life and Works of Rizal),
  • Professor Albert Jude Padlan (for The Contemporary World), and
  • Professor Monchito Avila (for Science Technology and Society), all of whom discussed the core courses in the New GE Curriculum- their outcomes, critical contents, teaching and learning activities, and assessments.

Participants in the two batches of trainings were faculty members from the Colleges of Arts and Sciences of the North La Union Campus, the Mid La Union Campus, and the South La Union Campus who are teaching GE Courses.

“I’m confident that all these discussions and updates on pedagogical knowledge and educational trends will strengthen our individual and group efforts in reaching world-class standards in education,” remarked during her concluding speech. (Manilyn R. Cacanindin)
