The Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) Faculty of the South La Union Campus- College of Education successfully conducted the first leg of their signature extension program at the Food Laboratory of the College on June 17-19, 2022.


Dubbed Project: S.T.I.T.C.H. which stands for Skills Training Initiatives in Technology for Community and Home Economics, the training aims to provide an opportunity for basic education teachers to learn various ways of food processing. The training was designed to respond to the need of public and private school teachers handling TLE in the junior and senior high schools for a TESDA Certification or National Certificate II to qualify to teach this subject.
Following lecture- demonstration- hands-on structure, the training comprised the following topics: pickles’ preparation, jam preparation, fish preservation/ smoked Bangus preparation, meat preservation/ skinless longanisa making, packaging, production reporting, and computation of output/ pricing of the product.
Participants were composed of two ALS teachers, five private school teachers, and three public school teachers from La Union.

The training was spearheaded by Dr. Veronica B. Carbonell, Program Chair of the BTLEd Department, along with BTLEd faculty members namely Vladimir Cariaso, Elena Cayabyab, Joycelyn Damaso, Gilbert Pagado, and Tristan June Olarte, and Joanne Ubay and Zedj Tenorio, 3rd year BTLEd students. (TJ Olarte)
