With the theme, “Safeguarding Oneself from Online Disinformation”, the Bachelor of Arts in English Language Program facilitated a webinar via Zoom on April 19, 2022 for its students who are first-time voters via Zoom on April 19, 2022.

Dr. Joseph B. Quinto, a Professor in the College of Arts and Humanities, Benguet State University in La Trinidad; Ms. Vanessa M. Ramos, an instructor in the Senior High School Department, University of the Cordilleras; and Mr. Abril Dacanay, an Assistant Professor in the College of Teacher Education, Mariano Marcos State University served as learning service providers.

Dr. Quinto shared his expertise in the language of social media. He advised the participants to be careful with their language when posting online to avoid conflicts in opinions and interests among social media users.

Ms. Ramos, on the other hand, talked about political propaganda in the Philippines and in the context of elections. She enlightened the participants on how to identify misleading information, lies, half-truths, and biases posted on social media.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dacanay lectured on fact-checking. He concluded his lecture by providing relevant tips to professionally fact-check information posted online.

Dr. Quinto is the Top 10 Students’ Choice for the most adaptive, effective, and flexible teachers amidst the new normal in 2020. Ms. Ramos is also a National Trainer of Introduction to Philosophy of the Human Person under PEAC. (Allyssa Marie Juan)
