DMMMSU and the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office 1 (DOST-RO1) sealed partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at DMMMSU-MLUC Main Library, City of San Fernando, La Union on March 31, 2022.

The MOA aims to enhance education by providing holistic and quality library services and collection. In addition, it aims to strengthen the University libraries’ partnership with DOST through the promotion of Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks or STARBOOKS. Through STARBOOKS, the library will be able to augment its clients’ varying information needs. STARBOOKS also help provide library clienteles with timely, relevant, and reliable information.

Present during the MOA signing were Ms. Mary Ann C. Belen, Project Asst. II of the DOST RO1; Dr. Eduardo C. Corpuz, MLUC Chancellor; and Dr. Sonia S. Isip, Director for Library Services and Development (LSD). Also present as witnesses were Dr. Loida M. Faller, Director for NSTP; Prof. Irene N. Gomez, Director for Cultural Affairs; Dr. Romeo C. Opeña, Jr., Faculty Development Coordinator; Engr. Rufo A. Baro, Director for Management Information System; Dr. Nancy F. Galban, Head for SLUC LSD; Prof. Rubylyn C. Narra, Head for MLUC LSD; and Mr. Jake C. Alminiana, University ILS Administrator.

During the MOA signing, Dr. Isip emphasized that STARBOOKS will be one of the most appropriate tools in bridging DMMMSU’s information materials gap. She further stated that the collaboration will improve access to the shared resources and strengthen the DMMMSU library resources, which include a wide range of disciplines and fields.

After the MOA signing, the ILS Administrators and selected library staff underwent an orientation-training on STARBOOKS.
