In support of the 2022 National Women’s Month Celebration, DMMMSU-North La Union Campus conducted various activities last March in recognition of the role of women in the country’s development. These activities were initiated by the Campus Gender and Development Unit.
Part of the activities was “ZumBabae” which was held every Monday during the flag raising ceremony. DMMMSU-NLUC personnel were immersed into Zumba featuring “One Billion Rising”, “Juana, Ikaw na ang Manguna”, and “Women-empowering Dance Song”. Meanwhile, every Tuesday, they were all donned in purple shirt.
Moreover, for the GAD signature campaign, a tarpaulin was posted at the BPAA Complex Lobby. Personnel who signified support by affixing their signatures were given violet masks. Also, a photo booth was set in the same corner.
Moreover, to recognize and highlight the role of women, the Campus GAD Unit interviewed five DMMMSU officials through GAD Talks. “GAD Talks” is a series of interviews featuring University officials whose leadership continue to break gender biases, ensure gender equality, and make change for women. The officials interviewed were Dr. Estrella N. Perez, Vice President for Administration; Dr. Gregory B. Viste, Executive Director of NARTDI; Dr. Elsie M. Pacho, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Junifer Rey E. Tabafunda, NLUC Chancellor; and Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr., University President.
The activities conducted aimed to raise public awareness on women’s rights, welfare and development; to encourage DMMMSU-NLUC faculty, staff, and students to support the advocacy on gender sensitivity; and to inspire DMMMSU stakeholders in promoting women empowerment. (Hannah Nora Bayogan-Solimen)
