The College of Education (CE) concluded the synchronous crash course sessions of their Performance Enhancement Course Audit 1 (PECA 1) last December 18, 2021.

The pilot implementation of the innovative 3-unit course is designed to review the pioneering pre-service teachers of the new curriculum and simulate the Board Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (BLEPT) through pre- and post-tests and mock examinations.

Dr. Rowena R. Hibanada, Director for Community Partnership and Extension of Philippine Normal University, and resource speakers from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and CE shared their expertise in General Education or Professional Education subjects.

Stephany Lhyn Jacang, a Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) major in English student, shared that “At first po, I thought the time was so limited for the instructors to be able to talk about content that must be taught for a period of time, but as months passed by, I was extremely amazed — knowing that the teachers were able to share slabs of knowledge, considering the time pressure”.

Meanwhile, Vince Dacanay from the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education program conveyed that every PECA session is fun and that they became more excited to learn and teach because of it.

Michael Angelo Gabriel, senior BSEd major in Social Studies, considers PECA as “a huge blessing for us for transforming ourselves as well-productive and progressive individuals for attaining our purpose”.

The semester-long endeavor has been spearheaded by the Dean, Dr. Nona M. Rivera, and facilitated by the assigned PECA Coordinator, Ms. Ruby Ann C. Gali, since September 8, 2021. As an intervention, PECA is hoped to elevate licensure examination performances of alumni — a hallmark of high, quality instruction as a Center of Development and key to attaining Level IV Accreditation Status.

PECA will end after the mock boards along with MLUC and NLUC Colleges of Education. PECA is implemented this second semester with emphasis on specialization courses.  (Joshua Justin Lee Bautista)
