As part of its commitment to quality education and its goal of becoming a globally competitive university, competent professors from the College of Education (CE) of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-South La Union Campus presented their researches in the International Research Conference on Higher Education (IRCHE) 2021 with the theme “Leveraging Cultural and Technological Diversity towards New Opportunities for Industry 5.0” via Zoom Conference Meeting on December 13-16, 2021 with more than 400 other academicians, researchers, and industry professionals in the Philippines and abroad.

Dr. Nona M. Rivera, Dean, led the group through her study Gender Differences in the Experiences, Leadership, Skills, and Styles of School Administrators. Other academic members of the college who presented were Dr. Jefferson D. Isidro (Profile of Teacher Education Institutions and Their Licensure Examination Performance), Prof. Zita D. Ballesteros and Prof. Raphael Job R. Asuncion, (Cooperating Teachers’ Feedback on the Self-Evaluated Soft Skills of Pre-Service Teachers), Prof. Abelynn T. Llarenas, (Narrativizing Student Teachers’ Experiences of Teaching English Abroad), Prof. Juliet B. Nimuan (Teaching Inferencing Strategy in the Primary Level Using Comic Strips and Think-Pair-Share), and Prof. Marvin V. Tandas (Effectiveness of 5E Teaching Model in Teaching Electricity and Magnetism). The CE research- presenters were also given links to the submission of full papers to journal affiliates of the conference.

The conference is a three-day activity initiated and organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC). This is a follow through activity from the successful research conferences organized by the University in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. It recognizes research as the primary means to acquire new information and innovative ideas across academic fields and disciplines addressing different challenges through proposals of sound solutions to various problems in the Philippines and in the ASEAN region.

The highlights of this year’s conference are on Pocket Seminars, Keynote and Plenary Talks, Research Paper Presentations (Break-Out/Parallel Sessions), and NEMESIO E. PRUDENTE Excellence in Research Awards.

The presentations were grouped in five (5) equally significant research program areas in higher education: Business, Computer Science and Information Systems, Education, Humanities, Social Science and Communication (HUSOCOM), and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). 

Hon. Fortunato T. de la Peña, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Hon. Sherwin T. Gatchalian, Senator of the Republic of the Philippines, and Atty. Lili Freida T. Milla, Director of International Affairs Staff of the Commission on Higher Education were the keynote speakers. (Gibson Reyes)
