Prof. Christian T. Montemayor, a faculty member of the College of Arts and Sciences of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – South La Union Campus reigned supreme as he bagged the Top Prize for the Outstanding Research Paper in the recently conducted 1st Virtual International Conference on Humanities, Education, Sciences, Management, Engineering, and Technology 2021.
His study titled “Initiatives and Mechanisms towards Culture of Quality Innovation and Management” explored the overall approach to quality assurance (QA) in education towards development of culture of quality as forwarded by CHED. One development that globalization of higher education has which gave birth to the internationalization of these quality assurance systems and standards are related to three general concerns: quality issues, equity and access issues, and efficiency issues. The situation now is that universities and higher education systems are being called on to internationalize. As to how higher education institutions could possibly internationalize, mechanisms must be identified and formulated; hence, the research.
Prof. Montemayor mentioned that “in view of the paucity of research in Philippine higher education institutions (HEIs), CHED has provided policies and mandates that are largely geared towards the improvement of research productivity (CMO No. 52, series of 2016 re: Pathway to Equity, Relevance and Advancement in Research, Innovation and Extension in Philippine Higher Education). Moreover, compliance to CMO No. 56, s. 2016: Policy Framework and Strategies on the Internationalization of Philippine Higher Education re: Strengthening of Appropriate International Linkage of HEIs for sustainable Philippine International Higher Education Sector. To complement CMOs that provide policies, strategies and procedures on transnational education, open and distance e-Learning programs, student mobility and exchange and other international schemes hence, a relevant and responsive mechanisms towards culture of quality innovation and management are designed towards culture of quality for the institution, today and beyond out of this research. Institutionally, this is a good contribution from a faculty member in DMMMSU towards the attainment of the quality objectives of our beloved University towards continued internationalization and sustained research institution amidst pandemic.
The paper was presented during the ICHESMET 2021 held on November 25-27, 2021 via Zoom. The said event was anchored in the theme “Accelerating Research for a Resilient and Sustainable Global Community on the Midst of the Pandemic.” It was organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) in partnership with the Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines – National Capital Region Chapter (MRSP-NCR) and the Van Lang University in Vietnam.
The event brought together researchers, scientists, technicians, and scholars from the domains of Arts, Applied Sciences, Management, Engineering, and Technology with the purpose of disseminating unique research findings, novel ideas, and effective developmental practices. Additionally, the virtual conference served as a platform for academics and business professionals to discuss state-of-the-art advancements in their respective domains. (Jerald Saculles)
