Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) through the Institute of Environmental Governance (IEG) entered into agreement with the Municipality of Bauang, La Union and Tanggol Kalikasan, Inc. (TK) for the implementation of Sustaining Coastal Resilience Project. This project aims to enhance the capacities of Bantay Dagat members on coastal law enforcement, to support the livelihood of beneficiaries thru oyster production and to increase coastal green space for local climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The Memorandum of Agreement was signed by Hon. Menchie C. Lomboy-De Guzman M.D., Municipal Mayor of Bauang and Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr., DMMMSU President on December 01, 2021 and December 02, 2021, respectively. TK will sign the document on a later date. Mayor Lomboy-De Guzman expressed her full engagement with the University and TK as this initiative strengthens environmental governance particularly in empowering local communities.

Dr. Junifer Rey E. Tabafunda, Chancellor of DMMMSU-NLUC; Dr. Violeta Collado, NLUC Extension Unit Head;  and IEG Faculty Trainers headed by Mr. Celso H. Jucutan, IEG Coordinator,  witnessed the signing in the Office of the University President.   

This initiative is part of Environmental Justice Sector Reform in the Philippines Project (EJSRP) being supported by US Department of State-Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and US Department of Interior thru the International Technical Assistance Program (US DOI ITAP).
