Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus (DMMMSU-MLUC), in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology-Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC), organized a two-day Hands-on Training on Metal Fabrication, SMAW and TIG, and Fabrication of A-Frame at the College of Technology (COT) Shops on November 11-12, 2021.

Selected faculty members from COT and the College of Engineering (COE) were trained and upskilled by the MIRDC personnel namely: Osric Primo Bern A. Quibot, Rey N. Mariposque, Camilo C. Cariaga, Ronald M. Bantoc, and Kinglee S. Fernandez, together with Engr. Reynaldo L. Dela Cruz, Senior Welding Engineer and Chief, Industrial Training Section of DOST-MIRDC.
Welding and fabrication skills training were given to enrich the knowledge and abilities of selected faculty in welding techniques, equipment setup, and operations.
During the closing program, Dr. Victorio C. Palabay, COT Dean, expressed his gratitude to the DOST-MIRDC team for visiting the Campus for the purpose of improving the skills and capabilities of his faculty members in metal works.
Also, Dr. Lorenzo L. Bacani, COE Dean, thanked the DOST-MIRDC team for the innovative training, as well as the COT administration for inviting their engineers to participate in the said training.
In response, Engr. Dela Cruz expressed his gratefulness to the University for providing timely and relevant training. He emphasized, however, that two days are not enough to learn the best skills in metal works.
“…ang promise ko, hindi naman ito ang huli. MIRDC is always here. We hope from the MIRDC, na tuloy-tuloy ang ganitong program natin…,” Dela Cruz concluded. (Joshua Catbagan)
