The Fisheries Research and Training Institute (FRTI) hosted the ‘Basic Life Support Training Course and Standard First Aid Training’ at the Ortega Marine Educational Center (OMEC) on November 4 to 5, 2021.

The training which was funded by the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Region 1 and the Local Government Unit of Balaoan had for its participants 30 members of Department of Tourism (DOT)-Region 1 and LGU of Balaoan and 5 FRTI personnel.

On the first day of the training, the participants took a pre-examination and finished 3 modules on Introduction to Basic Life Support, Adult and Pediatric Basic Life Support, Automated external defibrillator (AED) and Return Trauma Emergencies Demonstration. First aid demonstration followed.

On the second day, they were trained on Patient Management and Return Demonstration. They also took the post-examination.

After the training, all participants received certificate of training completion and a souvenir life vest as a token.

Facilitated by Archipelago Tourism Consultancy and Philippine Red Cross, and headed by Executive Director Jose Ramilo P. Villaluna, the training is in line with the kaligtasang pangkalusugan sa kalaminad sa kamay ng komunidad or 5K strategy of the Department of Health, and the Health Emergency Management Bureau (HEMB) equipping every family with the knowledge and capability to perform Basic Life Support and Standard first aid.
