Faculty trainers of DMMMSU Institute of Environmental Governance (IEG) facilitated the mangroves planting activity at Brgy. Casantaan, Santo Tomas, La Union on October 28, 2021, along with local community members and LGU officials. A total of 523 mangroves (Avicennia marina) were planted covering an area of 1400 sq.m.

This is part of the mangrove enrichment project which aims at increasing and diversifying the mangrove green space in the said area through the concerted efforts of various stakeholders.

This green initiative is part of the Environmental Justice Sector Reform in the Philippines Project (ESJRP) funded by US Department of State – Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and US Department of Interior – International Technical Assistance Program (US DOI ITAP).
