Anchored in the theme, “Enhancing La Union’s Integrated Health Service Delivery – A Core Strategy for Stronger LA Union”, the Provincial Government of La Union spearheaded the La Union Health Summit 2021 at Pugad Adventure Resorts, Pugo, La Union on September 21. The said event aimed to acknowledge health workers, healthcare institutions, and partner agencies for their outpouring sacrifice and unwavering service and commitment in this time of health crisis.
During the event, PGLU recognized DMMMSU for its “selfless” contribution and support of the continuous and cohesive fight of the province against COVID-19. DMMMSU Vice President for Administration, Dr. Estrella N. Perez, represented President Jaime I. Manuel, Jr. and received the plaque of appreciation for DMMMSU. Other public and private agencies that were awarded the same plaque were the Department of Health, Commission on Higher Education, Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center, Agoo Family Hospital, Philippine Business for Social Progress, Thunderbird Resort, Department of Science and Technology – Region 1, and Saint Louis College.
In a quick exchange, DMMMSU President, Dr. Jaime I. Manuel, Jr. expressed his gratitude to PGLU for recognizing the contribution of the University in alleviating the COVID-19 situation in the Province.
“During the past few months, we are driven to ensure COVID-safe space for our learners; hence, our move for flexible learning. Through this, we make it a goal that our targets are met while keeping our students and other stakeholders safe from COVID,” President Manuel said.
“Nonetheless, our University always keeps on looking for more ways to help. That is why we have been committed to doing donation drives, vaccination drives, information dissemination, and other campaigns to combat COVID-19,” he added.
Aside from the recognition received by the University, the summit also highlighted other awardees in various categories. Twenty Local Government Units of La Union were recognized for their COVID-19 Centers with a special citation to Agoo Ligtas COVID-19 Isolation Center which is DOH- and PhilHealth-accredited. PGLU also recognized COVID-19 Isolation Hospitals namely District Hospitals of Naguilian, Balaoan, and Rosario; La Union Medical Center; ITRMC; Lorma Medical Center; Bethany Hospital Inc., and La Union Medical Diagnostic Center and Hospital, Inc.) and non-covid district hospitals (Bacnotan District Hospital and Caba District Hospital).
Furthermore, 10 Most Outstanding Barangay Health Workers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars received certificates of recognition and cash incentives. Special Recognition Awards were also given to DRRM-H Czar of La Union Dr. Marvin F. Munar and Provincial Health Team Leader, Dr. Ronia A. Aragon.
In his speech, Gov. Francisco Emmanuel ‘Pacoy’ R. Ortega III praised the awardees’ dedication and passion underscoring that while no award can ever compensate for the commitment and passion they have shown, he expressed his hope that the activity served the purpose of extending PGLU’s appreciation of the various agencies in the Province for their dedication in ensuring the healthcare of the people of La Union.
