A total of 416 kgs. of recyclable materials were recovered during the implementation of Recycler’s Fair: Palit Basura Project at DMMMSU Mid-La Union Campus last September 16, 2021. This project being initiated by the University Environmental Management Unit (EMU) aims to increase waste recovery through proper waste segregation as well as to enhance environmental education on ecological solid waste management.
Dr. Eduardo Corpuz, Chancellor of MLUC thanked the Unit for conducting this initiative as it promotes the retrieval of valuable resources and it reduces waste disposal.
Materials recovered are the following:
- Carton – 95 kgs.
- White Paper – 110 kgs.
- Cellophane – 0.5 kg.
- Mix plastics – 20 kgs.
- Plastic caps – 4 kgs.
- Used CD – 1 kg.
- Polystyrene (Styro) – 3 kgs.
- Clear glass bottles – 41 kgs
- Colored glass bottles – 16 kgs.
- Broken glasses – 1 kg.
- Mix PET bottles – 10 kgs.
- Green PET bottles – 25.5 kgs.
- Clean PET bottles -77 kgs.
- Aluminum cans – 3 kgs.
- Tin cans – 9 kgs.
DMMMSU supports the implementation of Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act to prevent pollution. The Recycler’s Fair: Palit Basura Project serves as one of the strategies being implemented to promote proper solid waste management as part of DMMMSU’s green University journey.
Everyone is encouraged to practice proper waste segregation at home and in their workstations to promote cleaner, healthier and safer spaces for all.
