DMMMSU has recently forged partnership with the Municipal Government of Bacnotan to conduct activities along digital citizenship and data management to be spearheaded by the College of Information Systems of DMMMSU-North La Union Campus.
A memorandum of agreement was signed in by Dr. Jaime I. Manuel Jr., DMMMSU President and Hon. Francisco Angelito L. Fontanilla, Mayor of Bacnotan. Also present during the MOA signing were NLUC Chancellor, Dr. Junifer Rey E. Tabafunda, Bacnotan Vice-Mayor, Hon. Divina C. Fontanilla, and College of Information Systems Dean, Dr. Edelita C. Ebuenga. This is for the deployment and integration of the Community Management Information System which is an output of a research by Prof. Herve E. Orpilla and Prof. Daniel A. Neri, faculty members of the College of Information Systems.
“The CMIS provides a database of the present profile of each member in the Barangay (community) to determine its minimum basic needs and services to the constituents of LGU. The systems comprise of the socio-economic profile and Barangay Census,” Prof. Herve said in an interview.
According to Prof. Daniel, one of the system’s advantages is that it maintains an up-to-date database of all constituents of Bacnotan. “The system aims to have an effective delivery of basic services for the betterment of all the members in the LGU, and ensures a faster, easier, and more efficient system of storing and monitoring data,” he added.
Meanwhile, another memorandum of agreement between DMMMSU and Bacnotan LGU was signed in on June 16, 2021 at DMMMSU Bacnotan for the implementation of the seminar-workshop titled “Digital Citizenship: How Technology Matters for Individuals in the New Normal.” This is part of the IT Literacy and Competence Training Program, an extension project of the CIS.
Prof. Rhoda M. Lilan, faculty member of CIS and the Lead Training Coordinator, said that the seminar-workshop aims to deliver awareness to the personnel of the Municipality of Bacnotan about digital citizenship, instill knowledge to become a digitally responsible employee, and health and emotional wellness in the digital world. The said seminar-workshop will also equip the participants with the use of different digital platforms such as creating Municipal forms through Google Forms.
The four-day training was initially slated for implementation on July 2021 but was postponed due to COVID-19 reasons and is tentatively set for October 2021. A similar university-wide training was conducted virtually by the CIS last June 2021.
During a quick exchange, Dr. Edelita Ebuenga, Dean of CIS, expressed her support to the different endeavors of the faculty members of the College.
“I am proud of having them as researchers and extension project leaders and facilitators,” Dr. Ebuenga said.
“As the Dean, I can show my support to these projects and their endeavors in general by helping them in the promotion and in the implementation part,” she added. (Jerald Saculles)
