Fifty-six (56) teaching and nonteaching personnel and officials from the Offices of Environment Management, NSTP, Auxiliary Services, Student Admission, and Records of the South La Union Campus conducted a tree planting activity at Nagtagaan and Alipang, Rosario, La Union; and Sto. Tomas, La Union on June 30, 2021.
Dr. Joji Ann Fama-Regacho, Head for NSTP, in an interview explained that it was actually a 3-day activity in Rosario:
“Parang 3 days po namin ginawa ung activity. Nag-ocular po muna kami on the first day with proper coordination po sa College of Agriculture. On the 2nd day, nagkaroon ng clearing sa Alipang kasi ‘di ready ‘yung place na tatamnan. On the 3rd day, ‘yun na po ‘yung mismong tree planting activity.”
Ms. Violy M. Bernardo, Environmental Management Coordinator for SLUC, aware of the importance of tree planting, quipped: “Now is the best time to plant trees even if we know that some of them will perish in the future, for the future generation will learn to appreciate their worth.”
She was happy to share that they were able to plant 220 seedlings, 50 of which are fruit bearing trees at Rosario. About 150 seedlings were also planted at Sto. Tomas.
