In a letter addressed to President Manuel which was forwarded by Mr. Jowell Rodriguez of Binalonan, Pangasinan, Mr. Rodriguez praised the Mid La Union Campus guards for keeping in their custody a month-old Lenovo laptop left by Mr. Rodriguez himself by the parking lot near the College of Engineering on October 15, 2020.
Mr. Rodriguez narrated in his letter that he attended an LTO-sponsored training on the said date. He had already reached home when he realized that he left his crossbody bag and a backpack containing his laptop. He immediately called his colleague here in La Union and requested the same to contact DMMMSU security. When he contacted the DMMMSU guards, Rodriguez’s colleague learned that Rodriguez’s belongings were already kept secure by the guards led SG Carreon. Rodriguez drove back to La Union and recovered his bags and laptops.
In his letter, Rodriguez shared that what touched his heart and moved him to send his letter to the President was that when he offered some cash as a token of thanks to the team, the team refused to accept the offer claiming that they were only doing their job and that a reward was not needed.
Mr. Rodriguez in his letter pleaded President Manuel to extend Mr. Rodriguez’s thanks to the guards. President Manuel was delighted about the news: “I am happy that our guards are performing their duty well. This good news should inspire, not only the other guards in the University but also all employees of DMMMSU.”
In a chat via Messenger, Prof. Valeriano Cayabyab, University Security Officer, applauded the guards saying: “The honesty of our personnel, especially the recent exemplary action of Mr. Shin Paul Carreon and his fellow MLUC guards makes me proud of them. Despite their meager salary, they did not take advantage of the bags and laptop that they found last week, which if they misappropriated, could have earned them extra money. Along with his fellow guards on duty that day (Christopher Ducusin, Bobby Nartate, and Leo Pajimola), may his action be an inspiration to his colleagues and to everyone in public service. (Ayu)
