Mr. Ernesto C. Collo, Jr., a faculty member of the College of Arts and Sciences of DMMMSU-South La Union Campus, and University Scholar for PhD in Development Communication at the University of the Philippines – Los Baños, presented his paper in the Science Communication Virtual Conference sponsored by the University of Nebraska last August 14-16, 2020. The conference topics centered on the credence of SciComm before, during, and after the pandemic.

Mr. Collo’s paper titled “Framing Science in the Time of COVID-19 Pandemic: CNN’s Glocal News Reportage and its Functions as a News Media Organization” was presented live. His paper aims to establish the role and representation of science as treated by CNN Philippines and CNN International against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic as a global health crisis. Further, the paper offers a perceptive look into an emerging dimension for science communication scholars: the gulf between science and politics which surfaces the politicization of key pandemic decisions.

Mr. Collo’s paper is a work in progress under his PhD course Public Communication of Science. Mr. Collo intends to expand his study by covering more CNN news articles during the last quarter.
