Dir. Tolentino G. Aquino, OIC Regional Director of the Department of Education Regional Office 1 and Ms. Arlene A. Niro, Chief Education Supervisor, Curriculum and Learning Management Division guested on “Kapihan sa DMMMSU” on July 7, 2020 for the topic, Distance Education for Basic Education.

Dir. Aquino emphasized that amid the COVID-19 pandemic, classes in the elementary and secondary levels for this coming School Year 2020-2021 will still open on August 24, 2020.  This will be done through distance education where teachers can meet their students in an online or virtual environment, enabling students to study in their homes while ensuring their safety.

For students who do not have access to the internet, Dir. Aquino said they could use the self-learning modules being developed by the Department of Education.  These modules contain the lessons for various subjects and these will be distributed to students in coordination with the Local Government Units.

“Aside from these, activity sheets will be given to students through the different school divisions in Region 1”, Ms. Niro added.

DepEd is also taking measures to ensure that parents would be able to guide their children, especially the young ones as they go through their lessons. Ms. Niro said that the DepEd will be giving these guidelines to the parents for this purpose.
