NARTDI’s Beekeeping Project won second place during the Regional Symposium on R&D Highlights at the PhilRice-National Tobacco Administration (NTA), City of Batac, Ilocos Norte on November 20-22, 2019.

Titled “Intensive Beekeeping: A Gateway to Progressive and Sustainable Community”, this extension project collaboratively implemented by all NARTDI workforces is a blend of an externally funded and continuing agency funded projects that include Strengthening of Beekeeping through Capability Enhancement and Upgrading of Queen Bee Stocks funded by the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) through Director Ronnie D. Domingo, and NARTDI Beekeeping Training and Provision of Technical Assistance subsidized by DMMMSU-NARTDI headed by President Jaime I. Manuel, Jr. and Director Antonio E. Madrid. The project team was composed of Dr. Pablo L. Masiong, Dr. Lolita S. Dulay, Mr. Arvin C. Tuyan, Dr. Arvin F. Sobrepeña, Mr. George T. Bondot, Mr. Mac Donald C. Acosta, Mr. David T. de Castro, Ms. Mishima P. Soliba, Ms. Rolyne Mae C. Pajarillo, and Mr. Rizalde A. Claro. All other NARTDI personnel including the R&E assistants and field workers were contributory towards its victory.  

Another study titled “Profiling of the Beekeeping Industry: Status of Beekeeping in Region 1 and Cordillera Administrative Region” conducted by Ms. Rolyne Mae C. Pajarillo, Mr. David T. de Castro, Ms. Mishima P. Soliba, and Mr. Mac Donald C. Acosta was also presented during the symposium. This was the only apiculture-related research presented during the 3-day event sponsored by Ilocos Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILARRDEC).

ILARRDEC translates its Research and Development (R&D) activities into programs aligned with the national development agenda. It enhances and revitalizes human resource capability, foster active cooperation and partnership not only with the local government units and NGOs but also with foreign organizations. It increases its membership to expand more services and cater the needs of the greater populace. Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) is the lead agency of the Consortium composed of 18 strong and cohesive agency-members which includes DMMMSU. (RMPajarillo)
