Three DMMMSU students joined the 4th Association of the Universities of Asia and the Pacific’s (AUAP) Student English Speaking Competition, and two earned spots in the Top 10 overall ranking of the contest which was held at the Sias University in Zhengzhou, China last November 3-7, 2019.
Ms. Samantha G. Ronquillo, 1st year AB English Language student- NLUC; Mr. Gener V. Orencia, 1st year Bachelor of Secondary Education student- SLUC; and Ms. Coleen T. Dreessen, 4th year BS Political Science student- MLUC, represented the university and were among the 23 participants from the Philippines, Indonesia, China, India, Bangladesh and Iran.
Orencia and Dreessen displayed their mastery in using English language in the Prepared Speech and Casual Interview round to pocket the 6th and 8th spots, respectively. In the Extemporaneous Speech round, Dreessen and Orencia took flight once again and bagged the 6th and 10th places, respectively, in the overall ranking of the contest.
The DMMMSU student-representatives were accompanied and mentored by Prof. Ronald B. Bustos and Dr. Jesus Rafael B. Jarata of the Center of Languages and Intercultural Communication and Knowledge (CLICK), under the University Office of Internationalization and Linkages.
DMMMSU is a member of AUAP. It is a non-government organization which is holding the highest formal consultative status with the UNESCO, and is a platform for interaction an collaboration among members of universities in the Asia and the Pacific Region.
