The faculty and staff of the College of Graduate Studies and the College of Community Health and Allied Medical Sciences are all abuzz as Day 1 of their accreditation survey visit commenced today at DMMMSU SLUC, Agoo, La Union.

The accreditation task force from both colleges welcome the team of 12 accreditors headed by their overall coordinator, Dr. Antriman Orleans, as they pay a courtesy call with DMMMSU President Jaime I. Manuel, Jr. early this morning.

An opening program followed at the conference room in the administration building.

The members of the CAMERATA performed the doxology and Pambansang Awit, with Prof. Lorna Areola as their conductor. They also performed a medley of Filipino folk songs and a
couple of pop music using bamboo instruments.

In her opening speech, SLUC Chancellor Floribeth P. Cuison first thanked the team of accreditors for their presence and wished that they find their 3-day stay in SLUC pleasant and relaxing.

“It pleases me greatly to show you how much we have changed from the rounds of accreditation, thanks to AACCUP’s recommendations. This is the reason why we have pushed hard for this accreditation to take place,” Cuison said.

She further stated that since this endeavor is meant to help each other out through a shared purpose with the accrediting body, DMMMSU SLUC can “forge ahead successfully to even higher planes of excellence and more meaningful avenues for service”.

Dr. Elsie M. Pacho, Director for Instruction, then presented the statement of purpose for this program. She mentioned that this accreditation of academic programs is done to check whether “the bar of excellence has been attained” and whether these academic programs are acceptable to AACCUP, the DMMMSU community and the world.

Following CAMERATA’s musical number was a message from DMMMSU President Jaime Manuel Jr. who detailed his hopes and dreams for the university.

Manuel said that he aims for DMMMSU to not just be recognized in Region 1 or in the Philippines, but also to gain recognition as a premier university in the world.

After President Manuel’s speech, the deans of the two colleges, Dr. Milagros R. Baldemor and Prof. Ofelia O. Valdehueza, presented the accreditation task forces to the accreditors.

In the same way, the cluster coordinator of the accrediting team, Dr. Joey M. Villanueva, presented the 12 accreditors to the SLUC officials, faculty members and staff.

After the opening program, everyone proceeded to the Eriguel Hall for the start of the document evaluation.

The team of accreditors are set to present their findings and general impressions on October 17 at the exit conference.
