The Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication and Knowledge (CLICK) conducted its English Proficiency Training dubbed as BEST: Building English Skills for Tomorrow among the SEA-TVET Student Exchange Programme participants at the Central Administration Building, Bacnotan, La Union on October 11-12, 2019.
SEA-TVET students—assigned to the three campuses of the university—were exposed to drills and oral practices, which enabled them to engage in communicative activities and immersions.
One of the highlights of the BEST program was the ‘Language on Foot’ session designed to provide participants with opportunities to practice the four communicative skills while allowing them to explore the beauty of the campus and nearby places. Simple indoor teambuilding activities were also prepared to heighten their collaborative skills using English.
Meanwhile, the ‘What’s in Filipino?’ session focused on the acquisition of basic interpersonal communication skills in Filipino as a foreign language through cultural presentations. It also aimed to enhance the use of Filipino in narrative and descriptive forms of expression, leading to its practicality as a means of survival in the Philippines.
CLICK tutors/coaches in this second wave of BEST were Prof. Monserrat Paguia, Prof. Charity Madayag, Prof. Cristine Ochoa, Dr. Gerald Dumo, Prof. Marlyn Bose, Prof. Hannah Nora Bayogan, Prof. Elyse Charlyn Cariaso, Prof. Jerald Saculles, Prof. Dhierna Lhen Barbin, Prof. Xandra Viktoria Caluscosin and Prof. Jenny Babe Mateo.
The center, under the Office of Internationalization and Linkages, is open for foreign students and teachers, and life-long Filipino learners needing basic and advanced languages services. It caters to clients who are interested in improving and honing their five basic communication skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing and viewing); and other ASEAN languages—especially Filipino, Japanese and Thai, and Philippine regional languages like Ilokano and Pangasinan.
